Professor Mark Taylor from Macquarie University's VegeSafe Program details how he test the backyard soil of Patch from Scratch garden on ABC TV Gardening Australia.

VegeSafe test the metals in the soil with a special screening tool which details the levels of 8 different metals and concentrations in soils.

Testing for potential nasties such as lead which can greatly impact on children's health.

Lead has been found in inner-western Sydney suburbs from urbanisation of Sydney, such as from cars and paint.

The high levels of lead have been found in gardens and soils within inner western Sydney.
